17 year old Freiburg goalkeeper Noah Atubolu has confirmed his Nigerian roots with a post on his social media handle carrying the flag of Nigeria, Owngoalnigeria.com reports.
Atubolu stands at an impressive height of close to 2m and at the age of 17 he is already a regular for the U19s of the Bundesliga side who are taking part in the U19 Bundesliga Sud/Sudwest League.
Soi far he has made six appearances for the team and Owngoalnigeria.com German contact Rowland Mark rates him as a better prospect than Maduka Okoye who trained with the Super Eagles before the friendly game against Ukraine.
” Atubolu is highly rated by the technical department of the German FA even more than Okoye. He has played for their U17 and was a part of their U16 as well. At the age of 17 he is a regular for the U19s. Maybe Nigeria got the wrong guy because Atubolu looks a better prospect”, Mark told Owngoalnigeria.com.
Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal that the technical crew of the Super Eagles led by Gernot Rohr is aware of the 17 year old and talks over a switch to the senior national team of Nigeria took place last year.
Nigeria have a goalkeeper crisis and Rohr believes Atubolu will play some part in abating it if he decides on representing Nigeria ahead of Germany in the future.
