Leon Balogun has not been called up to the squad of the senior national team of Nigeria for the game against Brazil much to the surprise of many as his name was initially listed before it was corrected minutes later, Owngoalnigeria.com reports.
In the post announcing the squad, the Nigeria Football Federation ( NFF) on their official handle on social media updated the list of 23 players called up for the game by replacing Balogun with that of Shehu Abdullahi who plays for second division Turkish side Bursaspor.
Shehu is staging a comeback to the team following the injury he picked up in the first game of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations game against Burundi which Nigeria won 1-0, however that wouldn’t have been the case if Balogun wasn’t injured.
” Balogun miss the last game against Ukraine with injury and he is not fully fit yet. So we let him have a rest and call Shehu who has been a part of the team for some time”, the coach explained.
