Nantes are currently occupying top spot in the French Ligue 1 after a 1-0 win away to league giants Lyon earlier today , a spot which is a surprise to many considering the strength of other teams.
An own goal from Fernando Marcal in the 60th minute settled the game in favour of Nantes who had Nigeria international winger Moses Simon on for 75 minutes before he was substituted for Abdoul Kader Bamba.
Simon played a role in forcing the own goal in favour of his team in what was his sixth straight game for the surprise league leaders and he has started the last five games with one goal and two assists to his name.
The 24 year old who is on a season long loan deal from Levante to Nantes, who have the option of signing him permanently in the summer told Owngoalnigeria.com that it’s a thing of joy when your team goes top of the table.
” It’s a position I have been in severally in the past with Trencin and Gent in Slovakia and Belgium respectively. Nothing comes close to the excitement it brings, I really think we can achieve big things this season if we keep working hard”, Simon told Owngoalnigeria.com.
However Nantes lead at the top could still be cut short with PSG or Angers who all have a game in hand firmly in pole position to knock them off the top as they are one point behind with a game at hand.
