22 year old Nigerian forward Henry Onyekuru is yet to hit the ground running for Monaco following his permanent transfer from English Premier League side Everton during the summer transfer window, Owngoalnigeria.com reports.

Onyekuru spent last season on loan to Galatasaray and played a role in the team lifting the Turkish league with double digit goals to his name and in the process earned himself a spot in the squad of the senior national team of Nigeria for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

At the Cup of Nations he was reduced to just few minutes and that was in the semi-final game against Algeria which Nigeria lost 1-2, no thanks from a freekick at the death converted by Algeria superstar Riyadh Mahrez.

Last month the Super Eagles of Nigeria regrouped for their first post AFCON engagement but the striker couldn’t make the squad as he was still processing his work permit, hence had to stay behind in France.

Ahead of the next friendly game against Brazil, Onyekuru was left out of the squad and the explanation this time around is that he was drop to allow him concentrate on stamping his foot at Monaco where he has only played four games this season.

In the last four league games played by Monaco he has only played 15 minutes as he was an unused substitute in the other three games with his only game time coming in 0-0 draw against Reims.

Following the invitation of Dennis Bonaventure, Onyekuru will further drop down the pecking order in the Super Eagles unless he sort his club form in time before their first post AFCON competitive game ‎in November.
