Portugal football powerhouse FC Porto have rekindled their interest in signing talented players from Nigeria, two years after they pulled the plug on signing of Nigerian players following the failures of some players.
The club shut down their annual scouting trip to Nigeria after most of the players recruited fail to make the grade at the club but they are back to using same process that helped them discover Chidozie Awaziem.
Porto recently signed talented duo Nunu Maviram from Geelec Academy who is a left fullback after a scouting tournament in Nigeria. Alfonsos Dike a defensive midfielder was also snapped up from Super Stars FC during the tournament.
The players have already started their career with the U19 of the team from where their progress will be monitored for promotion to the first team in the nearest future. Something which their intermediary Babawo Mohammed says he is so sure will happen.
” All they have to do is work hard and when given the chance take it. There’s no two ways about it. I’m happy for them and if they can be good ambassadors it will pave way for other players in the future “, Babawo told Owngoalnigeria.com.
