Coach of the Nigeria U17 team Manu Garba says his present crop of players are not at the level to compete for the 2019 World Youth Championship title when the tournament gets underway next month in Brazil, Owngoalnigeria.com reports.
The coach said he is still in the process of strengthening the team as their recent participation in an invitational tournament in Turkey exposed some players and areas that requires attention before the start of the tournament.
Garba also he identified some players in the pool of players who came for screening and he will no doubt give them a chance ahead of some players who travelled with the team to the FIFA/CAF Invitational tournament in Turkey where Nigeria let a two goal lead slip to lose 2-4 to Senegal after winning their first two games against Turkey and Guatemala.
” We are not ready yet but maybe in few weeks time we will be ready. The tournament in Turkey showed us some areas where we need improvement and also some players are not up to the standard yet. I really can’t say we will win the U17 World Youth Championship but we’ll keep working “, he concluded.
