Coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr says he could quit his role next year as he is undecided on extending his present deal which is due to expire next year, Owngoalnigeria.com reports.
The coach has been in charge of Nigeria since 2016 and to a large extent he has been successful in transforming the team that missed out on two successive Africa Cup of Nations tournament into a team that qualified for the 2018 World Cup and also finished third at the recently concluded 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
Despite the progress, the coach who said he will love to stay in his job is worried over the lack of support and cooperation he sometimes struggle to get from the NFF and also the delays in honouring key parts of his contract particularly his monthly salary.
” On one hand, we have built up a good team, the youngest on average in Africa. On the other hand, there are many things that makes daily work difficult, lack of respect, organizational problems, promises are not kept”, the coach said in an interview with Mannheimer Morgen monitored by Owngoalnigeria.com.
” We’ll see how it goes on”, said Rohr when he was asked about extending his stay beyond 2020. ” But I love this team”.
