Former England international striker John Fashanu has reacted to the decision of Tammy Abraham to pursue an international career with England ahead of Nigeria.
Abraham as at yesterday said he is open to the prospect of playing for Nigeria despite having represented England from youth level up to the senior national team, he was however named in their recent squad for the international round of games and he proudly posted his delight at the call up.
Speaking to Owngoalnigeria.com, Fashanu who also shunned the chance to play for Nigeria in preference for England in the 80’s and 90’s said Abraham’s decision shouldn’t worry the coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr because of the presence of Victor Osimhen.
Osimhen is finally delivering on the promise he showed at the 2015 U17 World Youth Championship where he finished as top scorer with seven goals in all competitions from 8 games including one in last night UEFA Champions League 1-2 loss to Chelsea.
” The idea is to have the best players play for you but when you can’t have them you have to rely on other options. In this situation Abraham won’t be a big miss to Nigeria because he is almost at same level talent wise with Osimhen. Some people even prefer a striker like Osimhen ahead of Abraham. Rohr shouldn’t be worried “, he remarked.
