President of French Ligue 1 side Lille Gerard Lopez has weigh in on the debate on the difference between red hot Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen and their former forward Nicolas Pepe who joined Arsenal for a record £72m transfer fee in the summer.
Osimhen has made up for the exit of the forward and he is well on course to equal or surpass the tally of over 20 goals scored by Pepe last season with six goals in his first eight games for the club.
His quick start to life in the league has led to talks about the forward as the perfect replacement for the Arsenal forward but Lopez insist that both players are different and will rather view them individually than one as replacement for the other.
” It’s a good thing to hear people talk about Osimhen replacing Pepe but they are very different in position on the pitch and style of play even though they can score goals. I see them as players on their own and not as replacements “, the president said.
He however refused to be drawn into talks about Osimhen probably leaving the club in the summer insisting that the season is still very young and the focus is on how well Lille will perform this season and not on any transfer next summer.
