The chances of Arsenal teen star Bukayo Saka dumping England for Nigeria at international level has been discussed by coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr.
Saka has represented England at various youth levels but the 18 year old is still eligible for Nigeria at senior level and only recently he proudly talked about his Nigerian roots when asked if he is a British-Nigerian.
His response of I am a Nigerian made many believe that Nigeria stand a chance of luring the talented teen from England like they did with Alex Iwobi, Victor Moses, Victor Anichebe and most recently Joe Aribo.
Speaking on the possibility, the coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Gernot Rohr said in as much as he won’t mind having the talented left footed ace in his team, the process that will make him eligible to play for Nigeria is very tedious and lengthy.
” On Bukayo Saka of Arsenal, it is not easy to invite players who has already played for England or other countries in the U17, U19 or U20 categories. It is very tedious and requires long processes to do so. I could remember that it took us one year before Ola Aina’s issue was resolved before he was cleared by FIFA and way eligible to play for Super Eagles “, Rohr was quoted as saying by Segun Ogunjimi in the print copy of Nigeria’s sport tabloid SportingLife for Friday.
Only recently, Nigeria lost out in their quest to have Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori both of Chelsea to switch allegiance to the senior national team of Nigeria as they have both been called up to the recently released squad of the senior national team of England.
