Nigeria international striker Victor Osimhen says his loan spell in Belgium with top division side Charleroi helped kickstart his career in Europe after two years in Germany with Bundesliga side Wolfsburg, Owngoalnigeria.com reports.

Osimhen scored over 20 goals last season for Charleroi prompting the club to trigger the option of signing him permanently at the end of last season before selling him to Lille for a fee in the region of 12 million euros.

His form at Charleroi was quite different from his time in Germany with Wolfsburg where he failed to score a goal in two years with injuries and fitness issues coupled with the constant change in the coaching department of the team hampering his growth.

At Lille he has settled down quite quickly with seven goals to his name already in the league but that hasn’t stopped him from praising the impact the loan spell he had at Charleroi had on his career.

” From the day I came here (Charleroi) the fans received me as one of their own. the first game I played just twenty minutes but they kept on cheering me. I’m grateful to the fans, players, management team and technical crew for helping me realise my potential “, the forward said in a video when he visited Charleroi before joining the Nigerian team in camp for the international break.
