Coach of French Ligue 1 side Lille Christian Galtier has defended the poor away goal record of Nigeria international Victor Osimhen after the forward fired blanks again away to Toulouse as they slump to a 1-2 loss.
Osimhen has been a revelation this season in the Ligue 1 following his summer arrival from Belgium side Charleroi where he spent last season on loan from Wolfsburg before his deal was made permanent. Charleroi sold him almost immediately to Lille for a fee in the region of 12 million euros.
So far he has responded with with 8 goals in all competitions with seven of the goals coming in ten league appearances while one came in the UEFA Champions League group game against Chelsea.
His failure to score away from home so far has somehow become an issue for discussion and coach of the team Galtier was forced to jump to the defence of the forward who was voted the Ligue 1 player of the month for September.
” We lose as a team and win as a team. Osimhen is part of the team. Collectively we will have to do better away from home not just Osimhen. It’s for the entire team”, the coach said after the loss to Toulouse.
