MLS Goal-King Orji Okwonkwo Favourite To Lead Nigeria U23 Attack At AFCON

Bologna forward Orji Okwonkwo is the top pick of coach Imama Amapakabo to lead the attack of the Nigeria U23 team when they start their campaign at the U23 Africa Cup of Nations next month, Owngoalnigeria.com understands.

Okwonkwo spent last season on loan to MLS side Montreal Impact and his goal return of 8 goals in 28 games earned him the award of the player of the year at the club.

The 21 year old has been a part of the Nigeria U23 in the past as he played in the win over Libya in the first round of qualifiers for the U23 AFCON and judging by the fact that he will be around at the time the tournament. He is tipped to lead the line.

It’s still unclear if his club Bologna will release him though as he still remains their player and the Serie A side according to various reports plan to integrate him into their team in January, when the window opens for registration of new players in Europe.
