The Super Eagles of Nigeria under the tutelage of coach Gernot Rohr most times tend to play well against teams from other continent but their level isn’t quite same when they play against African opposition.

Recently the team drew 2-2 against Ukraine and later were forced to a 1-1 draw by Brazil in international friendly games with their performance drawing praises particularly their first half display against Ukraine.

Such eye catching performance has not been exhibited by the team against any African opposition and according to Rohr it’s due to the physical way most teams on the continent play against Nigeria and also the fact that they most times line up in a defensive way when facing the Super Eagles.

The coach also pointed out the issue of good playing pitches particularly in Nigeria where the team play most of their games. He said the poor state of the playing surface makes it hard for players to play the way the team want them to play unlike when they play on good surface against European teams.

” The idea is to play the same way in all games and create a style but it’s hard when you play in some pitches like the one we have in Nigeria. Also most teams in Africa defend against the Super Eagles and try to go physical that also means we have to adapt to get the result we want”, Rohr told Owngoalnigeria.com.
