No decision has been taken on who will keep goal for the U17 national team of Nigeria when they begin their campaign at the World Youth Championship this weekend.
Coach of the team Manu Garba confirmed to Owngoalnigeria.com that he has used all three goalkeepers in friendly games ahead of the tournament and a decision on who will start in goal on Saturday against Hungary is yet to be made.
Joseph Oluwabusola, Sunday Stephen and Daniel Jinadu are the three goalkeepers in the squad of 21 players and all have taken part in the test games the team have played so far. Oluwabusola who is on the books of English side Bournemouth kept goal in the 1-2 loss to Sao Paulo.
Stephen was in goal in the 4-2 win over South Korea while West Ham United Jinadu was in goal in the last friendly game against Japan which the team lost 0-1. The rotation according to coach Garba is to give all of them the chance to claim a stake as first choice.
” For now the number one position is still very open. All three goalkeepers can be in goal against Hungary on Saturday. It’s about who deserve it the most among the three players. They are all good in their own right but we want the best among them as number one”, Garba told Owngoalnigeria.com.
