Nigeria international forward Alex Iwobi has revealed why he told Bournemouth midfielder Philip Billing to commit his international future to Nigeria ahead of Denmark.
The newly signed Bournemouth midfielder has Nigerian roots which makes him eligible to represent Nigeria and Iwobi who also played for England at youth level before switching to Nigeria tried convincing him to commit to Nigeria.
Billing confirmed Iwobi’s approach to him during the last international break but revealed that he decided against the option as he has been involved with Denmark at youth level.
He was recently called up to the senior national team of Denmark but even at that he is still eligible for Nigeria as he didn’t get to play in the two Euro 2020 qualifiers the team played and won against Switzerland and Luxembourg respectively.
Iwobi has now revealed why he told Billing to switch allegiance to Nigeria : ” It’s about playing with the best players available. It would have been nice to have him with us but we have to respect his decision to stick with Denmark “, Iwobi said.
