Coach of the Nigeria U23 team Imama Amapakabo has moved sharply to replace Genk Stephen Odey in his squad for the U23 Cup of Nations with on loan Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Bright Enobakhare.
Odey assured the coaches verbally that he will be available for the tournament but his club made a u-turn after his goal against Liverpool in the 1-4 loss they suffered in the UEFA Champions League during the last round of games in the competition.
Imama who was relying on Odey to lead the line alongside Orji Okwonkwo who is already in the camp of the team immediately turned into his B list where Enobakhare who is on loan to Wigan Athletics was summoned to the squad.
The 21 year old was last season voted the best youth ‎player of English League One side Coventry City after scoring six goals in 18 games following his move to the team after an unhappy spell with Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premier League in the first half of last season.
He returned to Wolves in the summer but fail to do enough to earn a spot in the team of coach Nuno Espirito Santos’s squad for the season, hence the decision to send him out on loan for the third time in his stay at the club.
According to information exclusively gathered by Owngoalnigeria.com he is expected to link up with the squad later this week at their training camp in Abuja before they depart for Morocco ahead of their first game of the tournament on the 8th of November.
