The international future of QPR midfield ace Ebere Eze will drag on for a while after he objected to a spot in the senior national team of Nigeria for their upcoming 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin Republic and Lesotho respectively.
Coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr spoke with Eze to commit his international future to Nigeria ahead of England, the country he represented at U19 level last year.
The midfielder who trained with the Super Eagles in 2017 during their training camp in London was excited about the chance to play for Nigeria but went cold when he was told that the game is a competitive fixture and if he gets to play he won’t be able to switch allegiance back to England.
Eze requested to be given time to consider the option and it made Rohr to delay his list of players for the games in November until yesterday when Eze told him he should be excused from the games as he is yet to make up his mind.
It is believed that he is under pressure from the English football authority and he has been told he will make the U21 list of England for their upcoming UEFA Euro 2021 qualifiers game against Albania.
That move is believed to have played a role in his decision to opt out of the Super Eagles squad for now as he believe a strong showing for the U21s could earn him a move to the English Premier League, where if he impresses he could progress to the main team.
