Nigeria U23 team got their campaign at the Africa U23 Cup of Nations back on track with a comeback 3-1 win over Zambia in their second group game of the tournament.
The Nigerian team went behind when Patson Daka finished a well worked move to give the Zambians the early lead. Orji Okwonkwo restored parity for Nigeria five minutes later with a stab finish from a corner kick by Sunusi Ibrahim.
Huesca bound Kelechi Nwakali put Nigeria ahead for the first time in the game with a well struck freekick from the edge of the box after he was felled for a freekick. His strike bent pass the Zambian wall leaving the goalkeeper with no chance of a save at all.
Zambia poured forward in search of a way back into the game but it was Nigeria who finally put the game to rest when Taiwo Awoniyi scored late into time added on to secure a 3-1 win for the coach Imama Amapakabo tutored lads.
The win lifts them to second position on the group behind South Africa who are on four points after beating Ivory Coast 1-0 in the other group game. Nigeria have same point with Ivory Coast but a better goal difference ahead of their final game against South Africa while Ivory Coast will play Zambia.
