The Super Eagles of Nigeria had their final training session on Tuesday ahead of Wednesday’s AFCON 2021 Qualifiers game against Benin Republic.
Owngoalnigeria.com watched both sessions and our correspondent picked five things he noticed during the course of the training session meant to put the players in shape for the game.
1. Akpeyi Will Start In Goal – It’s a no brainer. Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi will most certainly be in goal against Benin Republic on Wednesday. He was by far the most impressive during a shooting exercise done in training on Tuesday.
2. Osimhen, Kalu and Chukwueze To Lead Attack – Barring a last minute change of mind, the trio of Samuel Chukwueze, Samuel Kalu and Victor Osimhen will lead the attack of the Super Eagles against Benin Republic tomorrow with Kalu on the left, Chukwueze on the right and Osimhen playing through the middle.
3. Aina To Start At Right Back – Torino ‘s right fullback Ola Aina has picked the right full back spot of the team. Rohr has been very impressed with his performance in training to the extent that Chidozie Awaziem was played in central defence for the B team instead of playing as the right back like he did against Brazil.
4. Ahmed Musa Is Well Loved – The captain of the team is back with the rest of the team and one thing that was very noticeable was the way the players warmed up to him. Almost the whole players cracked jokes with him before, during and after the session.
5. Rohr Has Selection Headache – Almost all the players who trained today acquitted themselves nicely making it hard for coach Gernot Rohr to pick his starting lineup. It’s a pleasant headache most coaches will love to have.
