The future of Ikechukwu Ezenwa in the senior national team of Nigeria has been thrown into doubt with coach Gernot Rohr keen on getting a young goalkeeper ahead of the Heartland FC of Owerri goalkeeper.
Ezenwa hasn’t convinced Rohr that he has what it takes to be first choice goalkeeper after three years and the fact that Francis Uzoho is now first choice has forced Rohr into considering other young goalkeepers to bring competitions in that department of the team.
Adamu Abubakar impressed Rohr at the Africa U23 Cup of Nations and the Franco-German coach is keen on watching his progress in the league as he considers calling him up as an alternative to Ezenwa who’s now third choice goalkeeper.
Rohr believes that Abubakar will benefit from training and maybe keeping goal in some games with the Super Eagles as he is young unlike Ezenwa who is presently enjoying that role.
The Super Eagles next engagement is in March next year and if Adamu impressed at Wikki Tourist he will likely get a chance with the Super Eagles although Rohr is also eyeing two young goalkeepers in Europe.
