Former Sunderland striker Josh Maja enhanced his reputation as one of the rising star in the French Ligue 1 with a hattrick and an assist for Bordeaux in their 6-1 thrashing of Nimes yesterday.
The one cap Super Eagles forward took his tally in the league to five goals with that hattrick from just three starts this season. Maja is slowly showing the form that earned him a move to the Ligue 1 side from Sunderland.
Yesterday he was watched by the coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr who handed the London born forward his international bow when he introduced him as a substitute for Nigeria in the 2-2 friendly draw against Ukraine in October.
Rohr will no doubt be pleased with the impact of Maja, a player he has said will be a part of the national team once he starts getting games and scoring goals, something he is doing now following the injury to first choice striker Jimmy Briand.
However Maja will have to slug it out with the duo of Paul Onuachu and a resurgent Kelechi Iheanacho if he is to win the race to become back up to first choice forward Victor Osimhen.
