Bordeaux forward Samuel Kalu will miss their first game of the year 2020 as he is still in Nigeria trying to sort out travelling issues related to his international passport.
The Ligue 1 side will begin their games in 2020 against Le Mans tomorrow in a French Cup Round of 64 game and they are going to find a way to navigate past the Ligue 2 without the 22 year old Nigerian.
Kalu is linked with a move away from the team in January and many are speculating that it’s part of the reasons why he won’t be in action tomorrow but Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal that it has more to do with the renewal of his passport and less about his desire to leave.
This season he has played 16 games so far with a goal to his name, no thanks to the fact that he has been in and out of the team due to injury and fitness issues which started from when he slumped during training with the senior national team of Nigeria prior to their first game at the Africa Cup of Nations last year.
In his absence, 21 year old Nigerian forward Josh Maja has stepped up and even though he has played same Ligue 1 games like Kalu, he currently has 5 goals which include a hattrick against Nimes in a 6-1 win on the 3rd of December.
