The best goalkeeper at the 2013 Under-17 World Youth Championship Dele Alampasu has ended his clubless status by pitching tent with Latvian side Ventspils, Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
Alampasu who was voted the best goalkeeper at the 2013 U-17 World Youth Championship won by Nigeria has not played club football since leaving Portuguese side CD Feirense in the summer of 2018.
Tipped by many as the heir to former Super Eagles goalkeeper and captain Vincent Enyeama, Alampasu’s club career has not made it possible for him to fufil the potential that earned him the Golden Glove award at the 2013 Under-17 World Youth Championship.
In his four years stint as a professional goalkeeper where he moved from the U-19 of fellow Portuguese side Estoril to CD Feirense he has only played a total of nine club games as he failed to establish himself as first choice at the club.
Already, the 23 year old has one cap for the senior national team of Nigeria and he will be hoping his move to Latvia will kickstart his career in Europe and in the nearest future earn him a move to a team playing in a league rated higher than that of Latvia.
He will team up with his former U17 World Cup winning teammate Abdullahi Alfa who is the only Nigerian left at the club following the transfer of Tosin Aiyegun and Adeleke Akinyemi to FC Zurich and IK Start respectively.
The duration of the contract he signed with the Latvian side wasn’t known to Owngoalnigeria.com as at the time of filing in this report but we will include it in our subsequent report on this transfer.
