30 year old Trabzonspor forward Anthony Nwakaeme says coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr appears to have forgotten about him despite handing him his debut two years ago.
Nwakaeme has been in fine form for title chasing Trabzonspor where he has scored 12 goals this season in all competitions with a further 11 assists to his name. A tally which makes him top in terms of goal contribution among Nigerian players in Europe.
Speaking after netting his side’s fourth goal in their 5-2 win over Rizespor over the weekend. Same game he also bagged an assist for Badou Ndiaye for the final goal of the game , ” I don’t know why I am not in the national team of Nigeria “, Nwakaeme told Owngoalnigeria.com.
” Maybe Rohr has forgotten about me but I believe I will get another chance if I continue with my form and help my team to the title. I really can’t wait to make up for the disappointment of not getting a look in the last time I was invited “.
Despite his determination his chances are however slim as Belgian-Nigerian forward Cyriel Dessers who has 18 goals for Dutch side Heracles and the resurgent form of Kelechi Iheanacho at Leicester City means the push for the striker’s role in the Eagles has gone up.
Presently Victor Osimhen is the first choice forward following the retirement of Odion Ighalo from the national team with Genk of Belgium forward Paul Onuachu as his deputy the past few games before his omission from the latest list of players for the game against Sierra Leone.
