Coronavirus – Super Eagles Duo Aina And Ekong Out Of Sierra Leone Game

‎The Nigeria international duo Ola Aina and William Troost-Ekong won’t be on parade when the Super Eagles of Nigeria take on Sierra Leone in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Aina who plays for Italian Serie A side Torino and Ekong who turns out for fellow Serie A side Udinese are both going to be affected by the lockdown ordered by the government in Italy as a result of the Corona Virus outbreak.

So far 631 people have died from with around 10,149 people also suffering from cases related to the epidemic which was first reported in Italy around a month ago.

International commercial activities in Italy have been shut down by the Italian government till the 3rd of April, which means the duo won’t be able to fly to Nigeria for the game in two weeks time in Asaba and later in Freetown.

Movements in and out of the country have been severely restricted with streets that are usually busy deserted due to the nationwide lockdown in order to contain the epidemic which has ravaged the country.

It means the coach of the Super Eagles Gernot Rohr has to replace the duo of proceed to prosecute the game without them. Although there are talks of shifting the qualifiers in Africa to a later date as most of the players are coming from Europe where the virus has claimed many lives.
