Covid-19 : Onyekuru Under Quarantine In Turkey As Reality Bites Over Mikel Obi’s Warning

The decision to allow football continue in Turkey after cases of Corona Virus were recorded in the country is taking its toll on football clubs as Super Eagles forward, Henry Chukwuemeka Onyekuru has been exposed to the risk of infection.

Onyekuru’s club, Galatasary reported that the club’s Vice President Abdurrahim Albayrak and manager Fatih Terim have both tested positive for Corona Virus. The Nigerian winger and his team mates have been told to enter into quarantine for 14-days to observe if symptoms would develop, as they have been restricted from travel during this period.

Gala Manager, Fatih Terim announced earlier in the week that he tested positive for the dreadful virus. Onyekuru , in a message to his coach wrote “Get well soon coach. You are a true warrior and I know you will be back in no time! This is bigger than football and we must all stay safe and listen to advice”.

The club’s Vice President Abdurrahim Albarayrak and his wife were tested positive for the virus also and the Nigerian winger did not hesitate to send his message to him.

“My president, our hearts and prayers are with you, we believe you will be back stronger than before.. #staystrong @abdurrahim_albayrak”, he wrote.

Acknowledging all the goodwill messages sent, Coach Terim wrote on Twitter, “I have such beautiful and special feelings that I feel every prayer in my heart. This is a test for all of us and we will pass this test with your prayers and good wishes. I’m fine and I hope I will be better. I thank each of you in my heart”.

Terim has won the Turkish Super Lig eight times for Gala and is in his fourth spell as the coach of the Instanbul-based club. He took up his first appointment with the club in 1996, retuned in 2002, had is third stint in 2011, before returning again in 2017. In between, he has coached AC Milan, Fiorentina and the Turkey National team.
