A family member of Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori has revealed that the defender didn’t contact the rest of his family before making up his mind to shun Nigeria for England, Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
Tomori was chased by Nigeria after an impressive start to the season at Chelsea but the England youth international pledged his allegiance to England ahead of Nigeria despite speaking with officials of the Nigeria Football Federation ( NFF) .
Once a youth international for Canada, the defender who has since fallen down the pecking order at Chelsea took the decision of committing his future to England without consulting his extended family.
” It wasn’t a decision that was deliberated by all. He probably told his immediate parents but his extended family that I belong to didn’t play any role in his decision because we were not contacted. I saw it in the news when he accepted an invitation to play for England “, he told Owngoalnigeria.com.
” As a family we have no choice but to support his decision and hope he enjoys a stellar career with England. We can’t wish him anything less over a decision that he believe is better for him and his career “.
However it is looking likely that he will miss out on a spot in the English team for the next European Championship which will now take place in 2021 following it’s postponement due to the coronavirus outbreak. Tomori is presently behind the quartet of Harry Maguire, Tyronne Mings, John Stones and Michael Keane.
The return to full fitness of Liverpool defender Joe Gomez will see him drop further down the rather with his case not helped by the fact that he no longer commands a regular shirt in the Chelsea team.
