Coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Gernot Rohr has lifted the lid on how on loan Liverpool midfielder Ovie Ejaria caught his attention and subsequently he had to put the player in his plans for the Super Eagles.

Ejaria who has already represented England at youth level was a one time trainee with the Nigeria U17 team of 2013 but between when he failed to make the squad and now he has grown in leaps and bounds.

At the moment he is excelling at Reading where he is on loan from Liverpool and Rohr confirmed he has already started the process that will see him switch allegiance to Nigeria at senior level. He was due to be a part of the squad before the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking on how he made up his mind on Ejaria, Rohr revealed he watched the player live in England in action for Reading in the English Championship and that quickly aided his decision on inviting the 22 year old.

“I saw a game when I was in England, I saw a game of Ejaria, we saw him playing in his home. We are still watching and even now I have videos there’s a player I saw yesterday playing in Heerenveen in Holland. Chidera Ejuke he is also very good”, Rohr said in a chat with Colin Udoh on Instagram.

” We are watching lot of players. But I watched Ejaria in real match situation. I’m watching a lot of players in the moment but they have to be better than the players we have in the team. ‎Joe Aribo is one of the key players in our team now.

“We have Etebo he is playing now in Spain, he’s coming back so in the midfield we have very good players. We have Alex Iwobi he can play in the midfield or on the wing but he love to play in the midfield and we have Abdullahi Shehu who is playing well in a good role as the defensive player of his team in Turkey”.
