Coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr has revealed why he didn’t reopen discussion with Hertha Berlin German-Nigerian defender after watching him in action against Fortuna Dusseldorf in a German Bundesliga game.
Rohr was in Germany last month before the league was suspended due to the outbreak of coronavirus and during the trip he watched games of players of the Super Eagles and one of the games had Torunarigha on the opposite side.
While Super Eagles third choice goalkeeper Maduka Okoye was on the bench for Fortuna Dusseldorf, Torunarigha who turned down Nigeria for Germany before the World Cup 2018 in Russia was on for Hertha Berlin.
However Rohr didn’t speak to the defender after the game despite confirming that he had talks with Okoye after the game. He gave his reasons for shunning the defender in an instgram live interview with Colin Udoh monitored by Owngoalnigeria.com.
“In Berlin we also have a player Jordan Torunarigha, he played a lot and very well too but I could not meet him because it was not the right time to meet him”, Rohr explained.
Torunarigha who is the son of ex Nigeria junior international Ojokojo Torunarigha has this season played nine Bundesliga games in what has been an injury ravaged season for the 22 year old who has also played for Germany at U18s to U21 level.
