Coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr has revealed the method he used in convincing Dutch-Nigerian defender Kingsley Ehizibue to pledge his international allegiance to Nigeria ahead of the Netherlands.
Ehizibue who is eligible to represent Nigeria, Germany and the Netherlands represented England at youth level but made the decision to revert his international allegiance to Nigeria and subsequently was part of the players called up by Rohr for the botched AFCON 2021 Qualifiers game against Sierra Leone.
The game was cancelled to the coronavirus but Rohr has revealed how he got the right back who has impressed mightily at Cologne to shun the Dutch national team for the senior national team of Nigeria.
“I met him in Cologne, I was there, I watched the training session and I meet him with his agent after the training session. Then I also saw Maduka Okoye in his club, it was an evening match he was on the bench against Hertha Berlin”, Rohr told Colin Udoh.
” We have with my analyser Nabil Trabelsi with my chief scout Tunde and he has another one who is helping him by Internet all the time. We have 95 or 96 players now in this database and we are following what they are doing.
“We have a problem in the full back but now we have Ehizibue and also Tyronne Ebuehi coming back soon. So we are okay with the options”.
