Little Known Nigerian Forward Umar Bala Making Waves In Belarus , Makes Team Of The Week

Little known Nigerian utility player Umar Bala Mohammed has been named in the Team of the Week in the Belarusian Premier League that is currently on-going amid the Corona Virus pandemic.

The 22 year old Bala who plies his trade with FC Slutsk was selected by the League body in its team of the week for matchday 6.

In his club’s game against Belshina Bobruisk, Umar Bala Mohammed helped FC Slutsk to a narrow 3-2 win at home.
He opened scoring in the 20th minute after Artem Serdyuk laid an assist for him to fire past the opposing goalkeeper.

Artem turned goal scorer himself 13 minutes later, as the home side doubled their lead but an effort from Leonid Kovel halved the deficit before half time.

Pavel restored parity for the homeside after 52 minutes as both sides searched for a winner. Another Nigerian, Samuel Odeyobo who plays for Belshina tried an ambitious effoert but it flew narrowly wide of Slutsk’s goal.

Tormentor-in-chief, Umar Bala proved to be the hero of the night as he expertly weaved his way through before putting the ball past the goalkeeper, as the game ended 3-2 in favour of his side.

His two goals in the game and spectacular all-round performance earned him a spot in the TOTW Matchday 6.
Umar’s brilliant performances this season puts his team at the top of the standings after 6 matches, with 13 points amasses from 6 games.

This weekend, FC Slutsk will be away to Dinamo Minsk, as the boys of coach Vitali Pavlov attempt to stage a title challenge this season.

The Belarusian League has been on-going despite the cases of Corona Virus in the country. It is yet to be determined how long the games will continue to be played in the Eastern European country.
