Former Super Eagles goalkeeper and captain Vincent Enyeama has given his opinion on the present goalkeepers of the senior national team of Nigeria.
The Lille shot stopper was Super Eagles shot stopper for ten years but since his retirement, Nigeria is yet to settle for a particular goalkeeper as his replacement with the quartet of Daniel Akpeyi, Ikechukwu Ezenwa, Maduka Okoye and Francis Uzoho all taking their turn in goal.
Prior to the emergence of the above mentioned goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme was the immediate replacement for Enyeama but Leukemia brought his football career to an unexpected end and since then Akpeyi, Uzoho and Ezenwa have been rotated as first choice.
Speaking on the options available, Enyeama said he believe they are the best at the moment hence the need for all to support whoever is picked in goal by coaches of the team. He however mentioned Sebastian Osigwe among options available to the coach Gernot Rohr even though he is yet to be capped.
“What is Uzoho doing that they should call me? What about Osigwe or the young boy Maduka in Germany? Akpeyi is doing excellently well in South Africa.
“Why should they call Enyeama when Ezenwa is playing and there are good goalkeepers in the Nigerian league? You can’t call Vincent Enyeama. It would be insulting to the other goalkeepers.
“We should be proud of these guys. They are all good goalkeepers.”
