A top official of the Nigeria Football Federation ( NFF) has revealed to Owngoalnigeria.com that QPR midfield maestro Ebere Eze was on the shortlist of players invited for the senior national team of Nigeria 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers game against Sierra Leone.
The outbreak of coronavirus led to the cancellation of the game that would have seen Eze who is a youth international with the U20 team of England watch the Nigerian team live as a special guest of the NFF who are trying to lure him from England.
” Eze was among the players we invited as special guests for the game. The plan was to have Eze, Bukayo Saka and Ademola Lookman watch the team and have a feel of what it feels like to be a part of the national team of the most populous black country in the world”, he said.
” Unfortunately the game was cancelled but hopefully things will be sorted after the coronavirus crisis. The idea is to get only the best players to play for Nigeria at senior level regardless of where they are born “, he concluded.
Already Eze has met with the president of the NFF Amaju Pinnick in London where talks were held over a switch of allegiance but he is yet to file his papers to FIFA for approval. Last time out he said he is still undecided about which national team he will represent at senior level.
