Samuel Chukwueze was a subject of concrete interest from English Premier League leaders Liverpool in the January transfer window, Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
The Villarreal winger was courted by the holders of the Club World Cup and winners of last season UEFA Champions League but the deal didn’t see the light of the day following breakdown in talks.
According to the management team of the 20 year old, Liverpool made a bid of €30m for the left footed ace which was rejected by Villarreal as they believe he is worth every single penny in his buyout clause which stands at €60m.
” Yes there was an offer but it was €30m short of what Villarreal wanted for Chukwueze. At the end Liverpool settled for Takumi Minamino. Of course it would have been a dream transfer for Chukwueze because he want to play in England but things happen for a reason “, a member of his management team told Owngoalnigeria.com.
Before the Laliga season was halted due to the coronavirus pandemic, Chukwueze has so far scored four goals in 30 games in all competitions with same number in assists as well.
A full fledged international with Nigeria, he has not been linked with a move to any team at the moment but all that could change in the summer particularly if he build on his current form when the league resumes.
