Erstwhile Super Eagles striker, Brown Ideye has disclosed that he is yet to hang up his international boots four years after making his last appearance in the green and white jersey of Nigeria.
The 2013 AFCON winner said the door is still open for him to return back to international reckoning in a chat with Brila Media, obtained by OwngoalNigeria.com
Asked if he thinks he still has chance of representing Nigeria again, Ideye said “why not? I have not retired from the national team yet, so if I have the chance, I will line up. I will honour the call”.
Ideye said he is unperturbed about his long absence from the Super Eagles set up. “I’m more focused on my club football. Without doing well in my club, there is no way I will get the call so I just make sure I do the right thing, which is scoring goals. That is the only thing that can make him (coach) notice there is a player out there.
Inspite of the retirement of Odion Jude Ighalo, Nigeria’s forward line still boosts firepower from Victor Osimhen, Paul Onuachu and newly invited top goal banger, Cyriel Dessers, Ideye noted that the team is blessed with talents, winning games and deserves the support of every one.
Ideye was instrumental in Nigeria’s AFCON triumph in 2013 at South Africa, where he formed a solid partnership with tournament tops scorer, Emmanuel Emenike.
The 31 year old has bagged six goals in 28 games for the Super Eagles. He represented Nigeria at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2007 when Canada hosted the rest of the world.
