Coach of Liverpool Jurgen Klopp has put on hold the plan loan move of former Nigeria U17, U20 and U23 forward Taiwo Awoniyi, owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
The 23 year old was prime to be sent on another loan which will be his fifth consecutive loan since joining the team in 2016 but the coach was opposed to the idea.
Klopp is of the opinion that he should be sold permanently or stay with the team while they explore the possibility of getting him a work permit to add to the depth of their squad.
The coach received glowing reports on Awoniyi while at Mainz 05 last season. A team Klopp once handled during the start of his managerial career.
Although he scored just once in the Bundesliga , his form towards the end of the season before suffering from concussion after a head injury has convinced Klopp of his usefulness.
Talks were advanced with Celtic, Stuttgart and Mainz 05 for him to join them on loan but he has now been ordered back to resume training while the club ponder on the best two options.
First of which will be to see the possibility of getting him a work permit owing to the fact that he doesn’t automatically qualify for one at the moment. The other idea is to sell him and use the money from his sale to strengthen other part of the team.
