Barring a last minute change of mind Sparta Rotterdam goalkeeper Maduka Okoye will start in goal for Nigeria when they take on Tunisia and later Côte d’Ivoire on the 9th and 13th of October respectively.
Owngoalnigeria.com gathered that Rohr sees the German born goalkeeper as the
real contender for the number one spot now in the hands of Francis Uzoho owing to how he performed when he replaced the shot stopper against Brazil.
Rohr confessed that he wanted to start the 21 year old in goal in the AFCON 2021 qualifiers against Benin Republic and Lesotho respectively but his coaches urged him to tread with caution.
The fact that the game is a friendly game now means he can take his hands of the break and go all out to play Okoye who is now the second choice goalkeeper of Dutch side Sparta Rotterdam.
Although he is yet to keep a game for the senior team so far, he can’t he termed as rusty as he has gotten two games under his belt for the reserve team who are also involved in their own league.
The other goalkeepers called up for the game Dele Alampasu and Matthew Yakubu will battle for the position of second choice behind the German born goalkeeper, who for now has the trust of coach Gernot Rohr.
