Nigeria’s top scorer at the Rio 2016 Olympics Sadiq Umar once again showed his predatory instinct in front of goal with his first hattrick for Almeria which helped them to a 3-1 win over Ponferradina.

The 23 year old completed his hattrick in 29 minutes by scoring in the 2nd, 21st and 29th minute to help Almeria maintain their push for promotion to the LaLiga.

Sadiq now has nine goals this season for Almeria but 14 overall when you add his six goals for Serbian side Partizan Belgrade before his move to Almeria on a five year deal.

Speaking to Owngoalnigeria.com after the game, Sadiq said his first hattrick is a sign of what fans of the team should expect from him in the coming games but also played down suggestions that he could end the season as top scorer in the division.

“ That’s what I’m about scoring goals for the team but it’s too early to say I will end the season as top scorer. For now I’m still adapting but the fans should see the hattrick as part of what to expect from me this season”, he said.

He almost scored a fourth before he was substituted and the forward who is reportedly high on the scouting list of coach Gernot Rohr of the senior national team of Nigeria explained why he was taken off.

“ I am a card away from suspension so it makes sense to give me a rest. I would have love to continue but for the best interest of the team I was substituted. We go again next game with our sight on promotion to the LaLiga. That’s our aim”.
