The U17 team of Nigeria arrived Lomé, the capital of Togo for the WAFU B African U17 Nations Cup Qualifiers where they are in same group as arch rivals Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana.
A spot in the U17 Cup of Nations awaits the team that will lift the tournament in Togo with Nigeria going into it as defending champions on the back of their last success in Niger Republic.
Owngoalnigeria.com takes a look at five players rated as top prospects in the team ahead of their first game tomorrow against Côte d’Ivoire.
1. Joseph Arumala: He is highly intelligent and scores effortlessly. The lad will surely have huge Responsibilities on his shoulders because, Egesionu Sopuruchukwu failed the mandatory MRI scan.
There were twins in the attack as they understand and compliment each other in several ways. Since the exit of his partner, scoring hasn’t been that easy for him but he does add value to the team by providing the needed assists and sometimes goals.
2. Michael Emmanuel: Tall and Very athletic on the Ball. He’s got height and eye for goals and can operate from anywhere upfront. Very powerful and focused.
3. Stanley Iheanacho : He’s got Positioning on and off the ball but can be erratic with his finishing especially from promising position.
Came to the fore thanks to the high amount of players that failed the MRI scan although he’s not a bad player given the level of his contribution to the team thus far. He’s deadly with His footwork and can cause havoc anytime
4. Samson Ogunmola: Most powerful left footer in the team. He’s strong and shows little prowess when in tight situations but his major strength is his shooting abilities. The only player that shoots with accuracy from any position. He’s brilliant too in duels.
5. Samuel Akere : He was part of the last Under 17 but was dropped due to the number of talented players in his role. This time, he came back and has been fantastic thus far. He uses his left very well, he is also energetic and gives intelligent passes.
