Barring a last minute change of mind coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr has handed a first time call up to Southampton winger Nathan Tella.
We gathered Tella’s recent run of regular games for Southampton has caught the attention of the Franco-German coach who has been tracking the winger since last year.
Eligible for Nigeria and England but he is yet to represent any of the above country at any level. Chief about to coach Rohr Tunde Adelakun mentioned him as one is the players they are scouting for a potential call up.
A close source to the coach confirmed he has been contacted and only if he fails to secure a Nigerian passport will he be excluded from the squad for the AFCON qualifiers games against Benin Republic and Lesotho respectively.
“ He is in the list but there is still one more issue. For now he doesn’t have a Nigerian passport. That can be a hindrance but we hope he gets one but for sure he is in and he doesn’t require any clearance from FIFA because he hasn’t played for England”, he told Owngoalnigeria.com
