Fresh from scoring twice yesterday for Anderlecht in a 3-3 draw against Club Brugge, Lukas Nmecha has revealed why he is keen on pursuing an international career with Germany instead of switching to Nigeria.

The 22 year old who is on loan from Manchester City to the Belgium side has impressed this season with 18 goals in 36 games, a form which has led to talks about handing him a first team spot at Manchester City next season.

However, his international future is one which has generated concerns as he was born in Germany to Nigerian parents but grew up in England making him eligible for all three nations.

He started by representing England at U17 and U19 level before switching to Germany where he has 9 goals for their U21. He recently said he has been approached by Nigeria over a switch to the senior national team.

Quizzed on the possibility of making the switch, the attacker explained why he fancies his chances more with Germany than Nigeria for the main time.

“ I am known to the set up in Germany and that will make the transition to the first team a lot easier. Not saying it’s a must but to me I see it as a step away from the first team”, he said.

“Even if I switch to Nigeria it’s not like I will get to play immediately. They have a team of good players in my position so it’s going to be difficult maybe I have to be patient for my chance with Germany the we will see in the future”.
