Red hot Leicester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho says the good form of Nigerian strikers across Europe is good for the senior national team of Nigeria as they gear up for the start of the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers.
Iheanacho who has 12 league goals for Leicester City this season has brought back the form that made him an instant hit with Manchester City when he burst onto the scene.
His return to form coincides with that of first choice striker of the Nigerian team Victor Osimhen who has also hit a purple patch the past few months with ten goals to his name for Napoli.
Paul Onuachu has surpassed all expectations with 34 goals this season for Genk in Belgium while Simy Nwankwo of Crotone has 22 Serie A goals this season.
The above mentioned trio including Terem Moffi who has ten goals for Ligue 1 side Lorient were all called up by coach Gernot Rohr alongside Iheanacho for the upcoming friendly game against Cameroon in June.
While speaking on their form, Iheanacho dismiss notion that he sees them as rivals rather he said it’s good for the team to have several options saying all that is left is for the coach to pick the players he deem fit base on their individual qualities.
“At this time, Nigerian strikers are scoring lot of goals in their team. It’s just funny if I go on social media or something. If I score today I will go on social media and I will see like Nigerian strikers everyone scores and I will be like what’s going on with Nigerian strikers”, he said.
“It’s really good for the country it will help us move forward that is what we need for the country.
“ There is no competition. Everyone of us have our own quality and the way we play it’s left for the manager to know how he is going to utilize everyone in their position. It doesn’t matter who is called up, all that matters is that you give your best when you are called up”.
