Almeria Nigerian striker Sadiq Umar was the hero as they got back to winning ways with a comprehensive 4-0 win over Alcorcon to move up to second in the Spanish second division standing.
After the disappointment of losing 0-1 away to Ponferradina last weekend, they went off the block quickly against their host with Sadiq running the show with the swagger that made him their top scorer last season.
The 24 year old scored in the 5th and 16th minute respectively to earn his team a comfortable two goal lead before he was presented with the chance of making it a hattrick from the spot.
His effort came off the woodwork before bouncing off goalkepper Dani Jimenez into the net for the third goal of the game in the 37th minute. It was credited as an own goal by the league goal panel denying Sadiq a hattrick.
Nonetheless he now has four goals from the first six games of the season keeping him on course to match or surpass his last season tally of 20 goals and possibly another call up to the senior national team of Nigeria.
He has been called up twice by coach Gernot Rohr but on both occasions he didn’t honour the invite due to club commitments. His fine start to the season will no doubt keep him in the frame for another call up in the nearest future.
