The Nigerian Nightmare will be taking on an old foe on Saturday’s UFC 268 main event. Kamaru Usman, the Welterweight champion, will be taking on challenger Colby Covington. This will be the second time Covington is challenging for the title after a failed attempt in 2019. This will be a huge card for Nigerians and Africans who will be roaring for Usman. Fans will be looking to complete their bet9ja online registration in time, so as not to miss the action on the platform.
The first time around, the fight went as far as the fifth round before Usman dug deep into his resources to take out Covington with a TKO. Covington (16-2) wants revenge for 2019. He feels he had a good chance of winning it all, and was very close. The 33-year-old Californian last fought in 2020, when he took down Tyron Woodley. That was his only fight of the year and his third fight in two years.
Meanwhile Usman has been on a year and very active this year. This will be his third title defence in 2021, after dominating Gilbert Burns at UFC 258, and Jorge Masvidal at UFC 261. The Nigerian has been so dominant in his recent outings, he is clearly the favourite to retain his title. It has always been a personal affair between Usman and Covington, but the Nigerian Nightmare is not one to back down. At their media conference, he acknowledged Covington’s talent but said the American will have to live with the fact that there was someone better than himin this era.
The welterweight title match will be the main event, but not the only. There will be a fight in the Women’s division, as Strawweight champion Rose Namajunas, defends her title against the in-form Zhang Weili.
In the Lightweight division, it’ll be a battle of top dogs, as Justin Gaethje takes on Michael Chandler. The two Americans will be looking to bounce back from losses in their last fights and add weight to their title contention aspirations.
Marlon Vega is looking to go up the Bantamweight rankings when he takes on Frankie Edgar who is eighth in the division. Edgar is hoping to make it a bounce back fight, while Vega will want to keep his winning streak alive. All the momentum is on the side of Vega, who has a leg, reach, and height advantage, but Edgar has experience.
The UFC 268 card should be entertaining and fun, especially with a Kamaru Usman main event.
