Kelechi Nwakali has been fined and also barred from training by Spanish second division side Huesca after arriving late from the Africa Cup of Nations as they ponder on terminating his contract.
Per a report on Heraldo, the midfielder wasn’t part of the group of players who took part in training yesterday despite the fact that he posted a picture of himself in the club’s colour at the training ground.
According to the report, Nwakali met with the hierarchy of the club on Wednesday to explain why he returned late from the Africa Cup of Nations, but his excuses didn’t convince the club hence the decision to fine him.
Furthermore he won’t be part of their group training until a decision is taken on his future which might include a pardon or termination of his contract which expires on the 30th of June.
His role in the team for future games is also under question as only coach Xisco Munoz can decide on playing him for the rest of the season. He is however not in the squad for the game on Sunday against Mirandes.
Nwakali’s attitude hasn’t impressed his teammates as well with captain Jorge Pulido questioning his commitment to their cause to gain promotion at the end of the season. ” I hope he gives a good explanation over his absence because those of us who work here every day deserve it”, he said on Tuesday.
Still on the issue of Nwakali, sporting director of the team Ruben Garcia alluded to the fact that the Nigerian need to show more commitment, if he wants to succeed.
” It’s in his head to be here, contribute and be professional since we would be delighted if he has a change of attitude”, he explained yesterday.
