The vice captain of the senior national team of Nigeria William Troost Ekong has given his opinion on the decision by Emmanuel Dennis to snub the chance to be a part of the senior national team of Nigeria for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Dennis was included in the squad for the tournament but he declined and intseas stayed behind to help his club Watford escape the drop to the English Championship as they are presently in the relegation spot.
While Watford said it was due to the fact that they were not sent a pre tournament notification for the forward before his formal invitation, Ekong has now revealed the true situation of things.
It was a distraction for both (parties),” says Troost-Ekong to The Athletics. “The situation probably wasn’t ideal. But I think it was his decision and Watford’s decision to make, so you have to respect that. It was a lot messier than it had to be.”
We gathered Dennis has apologised to the technical crew of the team and also the president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) during a meeting in London and he is set to be given a look in for the World Cup qualifiers playoff against Ghana in March.
