The last has not been heard about the disagreement between Nigeria international midfielder Kelechi Nwakali and his Spanish second division side Huesca.

Huesca suspended the Nigerian after placing a fine on him for reporting late from the Africa Cup of Nations following the elimination of Nigeria at the round of 16 of the tournament.

Nwakali has since been banished from training with the first team as part of the punishment but the players union are challenging the act by Huesca insisting that the player did nothing wrong to warrant such. He explained that his lateness was due to an illness and even provided doctor’s report to back his claims.

Per a report by Football Espana, Huesca through their sporting director were desperate to loan Nwakali in the January transfer window got a fee of €80,000 after he declined their offer of extending his deal which will expire in six months time.

It’s alleged that the sporting director threatened Nwakali that he won’t be paid if he refuse to leave the club in January, but despite his willingness to leave what Huesca were demanding made it impossible for any of the interested team to sign him.

The report claimed Nwakali’s poor relationship with the power brokers at the club is why he is keen on an exit in the summer but the club don’t want to lose him for a free hence the latest act. They see the act is one of gross misconduct and discrimination against the player.

Their aim is to terminate his contract to avoid paying him for the rest of the season. It is why they are no longer playing him. The players union have however opened up a case in his favour.

They claim the club has no grounds to sack Nwakali accussing Huesca of committing procedural error in the opening of the case against the former U17 Golden Ball winner. In the meantime, it’s looking like Nwakali won’t play any part in Huesca’s remaining game of the season.
