The Federal Government of Nigeria represented by the minister for youths and sports Sunday Dare says they don’t have any agreement in place with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro to be the new coach of the Super Eagles.

As first reported by OwnGoalNigeria.com Jose Peseiro has been picked by the NFF as the new coach of the team from a shortlist of four coaches but their proposal was rejected by the ministry, who order for a fresh interview with all shortlisted coaches.

It means opening the chance for the trio of Philip Cocu, Laurent Blanc and Ernesto Valverde who were shortlisted before Peseiro was handed the role. A move which the NFF defended by saying it’s solely down to cost as he is the most affordable salary wise.

However with an agreement now in place that the new Super Eagles coach will be paid by the federal government of Nigeria, the minister want a fresh interview to be conducted and the NFF have done that already.

They still settled for Peseiro and what we reported as an agreement to finally engage the Portuguese has now been termed as not true by a source at the ministry who spoke with one of Nigeria’s biggest print outfit Sporting Life.

The report written by Onyewuchi Nwachukwu also listed the five conditions the NFF must ensure it adhere to before formally engaging any of the shortlisted coaches. Below are the conditions.

1. Ministry ensured due diligence in the employment process to the extent that it is possible.

2. Ministry ensured that other shortlisted coaches were interviewed and sounded out.

3. Contract for new coach will now be for a year with a 6-month review period.

4. Contract is drafted in such a way that mutual disengagement is possible without Nigeria getting the shorter end of the stick.

5. The Key Performance Index (KPI) in place will ensure Nigeria is able to tap and get the best out of the new coach. The search for a new coach for the present interim arrangement.
