The head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria U20 team Ladan Bosso has provided an explanation on why his team were beaten by Senegal in their first game at the U20 Africa Cup of Nations.

Nigeria lost 0-1 to Senegal in their opening game and will take on host nation Egypt tomorrow, a game they need at least a draw to keep their hope of making it to the next round alive. Egypt drew 0-0 with Mozambique in their first game.

Reflecting on the loss to Senegal, Bosso told OGN that his team were wasteful and would have gone ahead even before Senegal got their first chance of the game which led to the goal. He also lamented defensive errors as part of the reason behind the defeat.

“We failed to take our chances, particularly in the first 15 minutes of the game, they had their chance in the last 15 minutes of the first half, and they took it,” Bosso said.

“We need to work on finishing our chances, and defend well because that is what they did, scored late in the first half, came back, and defended their goal,” he rounded up saying.
